On March 10, 2003, Peter J. Elliott was appointed as United States Marshal for the Northern District of Ohio after being unanimously confirmed by the United States Senate. He is the 26th overall U.S. Marshal appointed in the district since the Northern District of Ohio was formed in 1855.
 
Marshal Elliott is responsible for the management, administration, and direction of operations throughout the district. He is responsible for leading and directing a staff in the forty county area for the protection of the United States Courts, criminal investigations, execution of federal court orders and other law enforcement activities. His responsibilities include acting as the chief policy maker, decision maker and final disciplinary official for the district. He is responsible for developing and implementing new operations of district programs, policies and procedures pertaining to both operational and administrative matters.
 
Marshal Elliott grew up in Lakewood, Ohio and graduated from St. Edward High School in 1980. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration from Capital University, and he is a third generation law enforcement officer from the Northern District of Ohio. Marshal Elliott’s law enforcement career has spanned over 25 years in the greater Cleveland area.

In May 2007 Marshal Elliott was selected as a “Top Cop” of America by the National Association of Police Organizations and in April 2008 Marshal Elliott was selected as one of the 50 Most Influential People in Northern Ohio by Cleveland Magazine.
 
In 2010, Marshal Elliott was selected by the Cleveland, Police Memorial Society as “Police Officer of the Year” for his years of outstanding service to law enforcement and to the community.
